Fundraiser to support Yokoji Zen Mountain Center

Keen Summit to Idyllwild Saturday, July 1, 2017

Yokoji Zen Mountain Center continues to upgrade its facilities in the post-flood years after the 2013 fire. At this time, one of the water tanks has been decommissioned due to leaks and the other one is nearing the end of its life. Yokoji needs to replace both, at a cost of approximately $10,000.

Would you like to help Yokoji upgrade its water tank depot and at the same time experience breathtaking views of Garner Valley and Mountain Center?

You can – by participating in Walk for Yokoji, a leisurely yet invigorating walk along two country roads in the chapparal and oak-pine woodlands of the San Jacinto Mountains. Simply get sponsors’ pledged support for your participation in Walk for Yokoji and collect the pledges after you’ve done the walk.

All age groups are welcome, although we ask that you consider the logistics according to your travelling group. There will be a stopping station along the route for those who want to rest or simply enjoy the outdoor setting.

WHEN: The walk happens Saturday, July 1, 2017.

TIME: The walk starts at 9 a.m. sharp at the Keen Summit road start-point.

WHERE: Walk for Yokoji starts at the Keen Summit Road where it branches off Highway 74, approximately 2 miles west of the Hurkey Creek Campground, continues along the May Valley Road and finishes in Idyllwild. A map will be provided after you register.

HOW LONG: The walk is approximately 4 miles. We estimate a duration of approximately 3 – 4 hours.

HOW TO GET THERE: The day begins by parking at the finish point, which is located at the end of Cowbell Alley in Idyllwild. From there, we’ll provide a shuttle service to get you to the start of your walk at Keen Summit. Details on how to get to the parking area at Cowbell Alley will be provided when you register.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: The walk is open to all ages. It is on open dirt road with lots to see, however there are some steep inclines at the end and we suggest that anyone under 10 – 12 years of age be familiar with some vigorous physical activity.

HOW TO REGISTER: Walk for Yokoji requires pre-registration. You can register either by email to Kate Wilson via katewilson@telus.net or by phoning Melissa Severa at (951) 306-8592. If you’re registering as a group, please include your name and email address, as well as the names of people in your group. We will send you a pledge form, a map of the route and further information about the walk.

REGISTRATION DATE: Please register by June 25, 2017.

VOLUNTEER: If you can’t do the walk but would like to volunteer, let us know. We need volunteers at the registration point and along the route, as well as for shuttling people to the start point.
