Dear Sangha,

Once built, temples and training centers require constant maintenance. Protecting this place of practice is our shared responsibility. The Kubota tractor has been a true servant and hero for Yokoji. Originally purchased in 1986, the tractor has been in almost constant use, particularly through the fires, storms, and floods of these recent challenging years. After more than 3 decades of labor and major repairs, this vital piece of equipment is finally at the end of its useful life.

Please help us meet our fundraising goal of $40,000 to purchase a new tractor.

In February of this year Yokoji suffered major damage from a historic rainstorm. It occurred in mid-winter when we had a bare minimum of residents to do the work. Aided by the support of the Sangha we were able to make the immediate repairs. The ongoing work continues now with plans to armor the creek bed that runs through the grounds with specialized materials that we expect will cost more than $10,000. This project will protect against future storm events. Our need is great but the rewards of securing the Center’s future for generations to come is immeasurable. Extreme environmental events have become a fact of life. We are asking that you give now to ensure the survival of Yokoji.

As our society becomes ever more polarized and forces promoting disharmony and misinformation thrive, now more than ever, we need refuges where spiritual inquiry and peacemaking is fostered. Yokoji is a local, national, and global resource for those seeking to study the way of Zen. Please support this authentic path of awakening and donate what you can now. If your financial situation is limited, please consider volunteering your time and energy at the Center.

Please give now and protect Yokoji for all of us, and those to come.

In deep gratitude,

Tenshin Roshi Abbot of Yokoji-Zen Mountain Center
