News & Events | October 2019

As we approach October, we are now well into our Fall training period. We had a strong start with our 7-day sesshin in September, which opened the period. We benefited from such a strong group of participants who sat with dedication and commitment and who maintained a very strong observation of silence. This always helps and we were grateful to host such a dedicated sesshin.
We are now into our guest season and are looking forward to welcoming our friends back to Yokoji who do so much to support us throughout the year. The weather has changed and we are enjoying cooler temperatures on the mountain now that Fall is here and are starting to notice the transformation of our environment as the colors change all around us. This, of course, brings a few alerts too: with the increased likelihood of rain and storms, we remain vigilant to the threat of damage to the property. We have made progress repairing the damage from August’s electrical storm and this is largely due to the arrival of our new tractor.
The Spring Fundraiser was such a success that we have now secured a three-year lease on a brand new Kubota tractor. The generosity of you all led to the cost of three-years’ lease matching almost exactly what the Sangha donated so another heartfelt thank you to everyone for your generosity. It was a priority to get delivery of the tractor ahead of the Fall rains so that we were properly prepared for all eventualities and so we feel we are now in that position.
We have had a steady stream of members and visitors coming up for a few days or a couple of weeks at a time. This helps us greatly as the workload tends to increase in our guest seasons, so a big thank you to all who can find the time to come up and join us in the busy weeks ahead. It’s always good to see familiar faces at Yokoji alongside newcomers. So all in all, a very rewarding Summer has given way to a strong start to the Fall. We hope that it continues and that we can welcome you here soon.
