Fire
July 15, 2013 by Yugen Lakey
Yokoji has been evacuated due to a forest fire that spread from Mountain Center by HWY 74 and 243. We had time to get things together and all the residents and the animals are out safely. We currently don't know if the fire has gone through Apple Canyon or not. We will keep Facebook and the this blog updated.

The websites on inciweb and calfire still do not report major structures gone so am holding out hope that Yokoji and the Pine springs camp are intact. It was heartbreaking to see Apache peak rock face behind a wall of fire yesterday evening . My thoughts are all with each of you. I am here at the dome in MC if you need anything. Chanting for all the animals trapped up in the canyon, sending energy to all the fire fighters and flyers who are targeting this amazing fire dragon.

So sorry for your discomfort and dislocation, so sorry for all of the wildlife. I heard that the fire reached Apple Canyon last night, but there are a lot of rumors swirling like the wind (e.g., Mtn Ctr destroyed, but TC says that’s not true), so I hope that that one was wrong also. Namaste, Yozan

My husband is a SD firefighter on the wildfires, and we’ve been hoping to come visit Yokoji for years now. Love + light to you all and to all our fellow firefighters…we will meet you in peaceful times soon!

Jim……Are there any needs to met right now? as you know, we are fairly close by and are anxious to help if needed in anyway

Thanks Jim—all the residents and animals are housed for the time being. We’re really just waiting to find out the extent of the damage. They have a damage assessment team on the ground, so it’s possible we’ll hear something later today. I’ve been liaising with our insurers to get them on the ready, but until we know how bad the fire hit the canyon, there isn’t much we can do. Thank you for the offer, though.
